Marathon - Collector's Edition

Marathon Collector’s Edition

The Marathon CE was thoughtfully crafted to embody the bold graphic design and visual pillars of our brand, game Art Direction and world. Each layer of the unique hexagonal packaging reveals the process of a Runner Shell being created through Sekiguchi Genetics' shell-weaving process from start to finish. The exterior sleeve is a frosted mylar that ghosts the lower layers to create a dimensional look that mimics the effect of motion as it slides off. Front box panels then open to reveal further evolution of the shell and a highly detailed lenticular print that shows the entire process.  Matte finishes paired with bold gloss spot varnishes, clear foil stamps and metallic silver inks highlight the bold graphic shapes and enhance the elegance of the unboxing. The final packaging, once fully unboxed, reveals a 1/6-scale statue of the Thief Runner Shell statue with LED lights. The box interior is designed as a diorama set piece to display the final statue in its environment.

The world of Marathon, and thus this Collector’s Edition, are built to read clearly at every level. From a distance, bold color and strong shapes define space and guide movement. Up close, graphic design, typography, and markings reinforce function and intent. A restrained palette, simple forms, and a grid-driven structure create a sense of order, while subtle distortions and system breakdowns introduce instability. Throughout, micrographic details and interface cues echo the visual language of early digital systems and 90s-era gaming, grounding the world in something familiar while pushing it forward.

Marathon is a striking fusion of art and survival, where bold design and high-stakes play create something unmistakable.

Designed in partnership with PureArts, the Marathon Collector's Edition includes a 1/6-scale statue of the Thief Runner Shell with LED lights powered by USB cable. Each layer of premium unboxing takes you through Sekiguchi Genetics' shell-weaving process, revealing a Thief shell deployed to Dire Marsh on the surface of Tau Ceti IV. Having ambushed a rival Runner that now lies in the waters beneath her feet, Thief surveils her surroundings for her next target—and her next payout. 

Other contents of the Collector's Edition include a collectible Sekiguchi WEAVEworm, an embroidered patch, a set of runner art postcards, and unique bonus cosmetics.

What started as a for Bungie by Bungie book, as a holiday gift geared toward the growing amount of Bungie employees who had or were having children, we created this Destiny themed Alphabet book, carefully written, illustrated and designed with Destiny themes by internal Bungie team members. Due to the overwhelming popularity, we eventually published it publicly for fans worldwide to enjoy.
